Snickerdoodles
I do love cookies….hmm…I think perhaps I have mentioned that to you before! hee hee! Snickerdoodles are DEFINITELY one of my favorite cookies, but I just don’t hear about people making them very often.
Kind of a forgotten cookie…..but NOT forgotten at my house! They are delicious and my kids especially love it when I make them because they get to help roll the cookie dough into balls and coat them in sugar and cinnamon. Super fun!! Also, sugar and cinnamon…what doesn’t taste good coated in that combination?? Seriously, if you have never had a Snickerdoodle you need to STOP whatever you are doing right now and make some! Don’t worry you will thank me later, I promise. {wink}
Just look at this deliciousness. Cracked and soft and covered in sugar and cinnamon, YUM!
- 3 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 cup softened butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 6 TB. sugar
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- Stir together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt in a bowl
- In another bowl beat softened butter until fluffy, then add sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla and beat until well blended
- Set dough aside.
- In a shallow bowl mix 6 TB sugar and 2 tsp cinnamon
- Scoop out dough by the Tablespoon and using your hands roll into a ball, then roll ball in sugar and cinnamon mixture until coated
- Place dough ball onto prepared cookie sheet
- Bake at 350 for 15-16 minutes
- Be careful not to overcook! Nothing worse than a crunchy snickerdoodle! It is hard to tell when the cookie is done because if you wait until it is turning golden brown then it is overdone! Just wait for little cracks to appear in the top of the cookie and for it to not look doughy. Watch you first batch carefully so you will know exactly how long to bake the remaining batches.
We made these for my daughter’s preschool teacher. We love her so much, she is like a never ending ball of love and energy and fun. Both of my girls have gone to her preschool and they adore her. She deserves a special treat for teacher appreciation. We put together some snickerdoodles in a cello bag and placed them in a cute bucket. I printed off a small card from Sweet Metel Moments and attached it to the bag with twine.
Done! Look at my girl, so happy to be bringing her beloved teacher a treat she helped to make. She even filled out the inside of the card all by herself. I can’t get enough of her 4 year old handwriting.
I love this girl. I love cookies. I love great teachers.

I have a quick question.. All purpose or self rising flour?
I just use all purpose. Hope you enjoy them!
I’m not finding the recipe?
Hmmm, Corrie I am not sure? I have looked at the post a couple times in the last few days and I can see the recipe. Are you still unable to see it?

Great recipe! I multiplied the ingredients by 1.5 because I have two teenage brothers, my parents, and myself to bake for. I did substitute 1 cup of white sugar for 1 cup of brown sugar to make the cookies a bit chewier. Delicious 🙂
Kenzie, thanks for the reply! I have never though about subbing white sugar to make it more chewy! Genius, how did they turn out?
I am so glad you liked them, and thanks for the visit to my blog:)
They turned out great! Perfectly thick and chewy.
My hubby loves snickerdoodle cookies. I think I will make these for Fathers day! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome Jenn, hope you enjoy them!
What a cute gift idea! You made me remember how much the hubby loves these- so they will be a Father’s Day must. They look so yum! Pinned it and following you now 🙂
Thanks for the kind words, the pin and the follow!! Appreciate it:)
um your baby girl is adorable! And now I want to make cookies! They look SOOO yummy! And totally true about not overcooking them! They are not half as good if they get cooked just a minute too long. I’ll have to try this recipe out!
My snicker-doodles are always too dry when I make them so I never do. I will try taking them out a little earlier and see if that helps:)
YES, dry snickerdoodles are the worst. Not good when they are crunchy! Let me know if it is any better, a world without soft snickerdoodles is a sad place indeed.
